The brains behind the brands.
For over six decades, Benson has been designing, manufacturing and supplying the industrial and automotive industries with high quality OE and aftermarket exhaust components.
In 1952, Benson was established by the Hewitson family and employed six staff to manufacture exhaust components for local motor factors. From these humble beginnings, the company grew to become manufacturers of automotive parts for big brands such as CE-Last Silencers, Richard Bainbridge & Sons, Hawtin Industries, Bosal Exhausts and TIMAX Exhausts.
By the late ‘80’s and early ‘90’s Benson had significantly expanded it’s offering, launching an independent exhaust brand for UK distributors that encompassed 96% of the UK car volume and winning contracts with Ford and Land Rover for the manufacture and supply of OE spares for it’s UK and International markets.
A substantial contract to design, develop and manufacture OEM exhaust systems for JCB across the UK, USA, Brazil, India and for the JCB World Service Parts Centre signaled another period of expansion and well deserved recognition for the quality of the Benson OEM offering. This lead to the company’s design and development expertise being harnessed by other major OEM brands, including Barford, Thwaites, Jungheinrich, Fermec, Lotus and Scania.
Most recently, the company launched ‘Exair’ the largest manufactured brand of aftermarket truck, bus and industrial exhaust systems in the UK, and purchased the assets of Blueflame Performance Exhausts; manufacturing and supplying the two largest brands in the tuning exhaust sector, Mongoose and Magnex.
Today, the third generation family run business employs over 75 staff at a 2 acre Manchester based facility capable of producing 40,000 unique lines and handling 15,000 different components at anyone time. Each year over 360,000 high quality OE and aftermarket components are produced for UK and International manufacturers and distributors – proving Benson remains the brains behind the industry’s leading brands.
